Texas Tech University Health Science El Paso

Trauma Research Director

The Department of Surgery at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSCEP) seeks an academic surgeon to enhance our acute care surgery program in the role of Trauma Research Director. The successful candidate should enjoy teaching surgical critical care fellows, residents and medical students as well as pursuing research and other scholarly activities within the Surgery Department. This is an excellent opportunity to have a pivotal role as the Surgery Department grows clinically and academically as a regional referral center for surgical disease.
The successful candidate will be employed by TTUHSCEP at an academic rank commensurate with qualifications. The surgeon will provide patient care at University Medical Center of El Paso and El Paso Children’s Hospital. UMC-EP, as the only ACS-verified Level 1 trauma center for a 270-mile radius, annually admits approximately 3,900 trauma patients from a catchment area of 1.25M individuals in far west Texas and southern New Mexico. The Health Sciences Center consists of the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, the Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing, the L. Frederick Francis Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and the Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine. TTUHSCEP is one of five independent universities in the Texas Tech University System.
El Paso is the 6th most populous city in Texas and the 22nd in the United States. The Franklin Mountains are the signature of Texas’ only “mountain city.” At 24,000 acres, El Paso’s Franklin Mountains State Park is the largest urban park in the country. It is a unique resource – an outpost of wild Chihuahuan Desert, in the midst of a major city. El Paso consistently ranks as one of the safest cities in the United States. Exceptional public schools and private schools are available. The city has minor league baseball and soccer, symphony, museums, excellent dining options and shopping. The El Paso International Airport is easy to access, making travel simple and efficient. One can enjoy living in the mountains and skiing is just two hours away.
The position requires a M.D. /D.O. degree, completion of an ACGME approved residency in general surgery and successful completion of a surgical critical care fellowship as well as board certification/eligibility in general surgery and surgical critical care. The position is a full-time appointment at TTUHSC-EP and the salary is competitive.
