Trauma Surgeon

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Medicine, Department of Surgery, is accepting applications for an Acute Care General Surgeon in the Division of Trauma/Surgical Critical Care.
The successful applicant will be academically oriented and excited to help expand the faculty of one of the busiest trauma centers in the country.
Responsibilities include covering trauma, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery, staffing an outpatient clinic and providing other didactic educational services to medical students, residents, and fellows, particularly in the clinical setting. There is an opportunity for collaboration with the burn service in the Firefighters Burn Unit at Regional One Health for coverage of the burn ICU and burn surgery for the candidate with appropriate experience.

A desire to participate in surgical education is mandatory. Position may supervise medical students, residents, and fellows. Clinical research opportunities are abundant, and research will be encouraged. There is also an opportunity to develop a basic research program for the qualified candidate.

The candidate hired will join a cohesive team of 11 academic surgeons at the Elvis Presley Trauma Center (EPTC) at Regional One Health. The Division oversees a Surgical Critical Care fellowship (expanded to 4 positions in 2023) and a AAST Acute Care Surgery fellowship (expanding to 3 positions in August 2024). Operative trauma cases remain high with a large volume of penetrating trauma.
This is a non-tenure track position with rank commensurate with experience.

Basic Qualifications:
Candidate must have completed an accredited general residency program and surgical critical care fellowship and be Board Eligible/ Board Certified in General Surgery and Surgery Critical Care.
