Second-Year Fellowship Surgeon

Washington University School of Medicine, Department of Surgery is recruiting a second-year fellowship surgeon in an academic trauma and critical care in a Level 1 Adult Trauma Center providing multidisciplinary care to their community. The second-year fellowship incorporates Surgical Critical Care, e-ICU, Trauma, Emergency General Surgery and Elective General Surgery.
Our Acute and Critical Care Section has 25 attendings of varied backgrounds and clinical/academic interests that practice within a large urban academic center. We boast comprehensive and busy clinical practices in Trauma, Emergency General Surgery and Critical Care.
The SICU and e-ICU are an integral part of our section and will allow you to function independently as an intensivist from the start of the fellowship. The surgical rotations involve a graduated responsibility, a true transition to practice. During the initial 6 months, you will have an in-house senior faculty member with you. For the latter 6 months, your senior faculty member will be immediately available. This transition allows graduated independence to practice with the goal of independent admitting privileges and practice in the second half of the fellowship.
You will also be appointed as an Instructor in the Dept. of Surgery for the fellowship year.

The surgeon will need to demonstrate practical interpersonal and communication skills and be committed to ongoing performance improvement. Dedication to enhancing a diverse workforce and academic environment is vital. They should be able to collaborate effectively with other clinicians. Evidence of clinical competence and competence in clinical and didactic teaching and research is expected.
