2018 John M. Templeton, Jr., MD Injury Prevention Research Scholarship

Letters of Intent now closed.  The submission deadline was July 14, 2017.

This scholarship is made possible through the generous donation of long time EAST member, the late, John (Jack) M. Templeton, Jr., MD.  Dr. Templeton’s vision was to help support a young investigator perform an interventional trial in the field of injury prevention. The 2018 scholarship deadline for receipt of Letters of Intent was July 14, 2017.  Following receipt of the Letters of Intent, the Research-Scholarship Committee, along with the Chair of the Injury Control & Violence Prevention Committee and Research Division Chair will judge applicants on the basis of the merit of their proposal and the potential of the applicant of future contributions to the field of injury prevention.  The top ranked Letters of Intent will be invited to submit full proposals by October 2, 2017.  The Research-Scholarship Committee, along with the Chair of the Injury Control & Violence Prevention Committee and Research Division Chair will review full proposals in October 2017 and select the final awardee.  For official rules and regulations for this scholarship please refer here.

2018 Trauma Research Scholarship

Letters of Intent now closed.  The submission deadline was July 14, 2017.

The Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST) Trauma Research Scholarship is a research scholarship initially offered May 1, 2001.  The scholarship amount is $40,000 for one (1) year only and is currently funded through a grant from EAST.  The 2018 scholarship deadline for receipt of Letters of Intent was July 14, 2017.  Following receipt of the Letters of Intent, the Research-Scholarship Committee along with the Research Division Chair will judge the Letters of Intent on the basis of the merit of their research proposals, the potential of the applicant of future contributions to the science and practice of the surgery of trauma, and the applicant’s mentor support and dedication of the research proposal.  The top ranked Letters of Intent will be invited to submit full proposals by October 2, 2017.  The Research-Scholarship Committee and Research Division Chair will review full proposals in October 2017 and select the final awardee.  For official rules and regulations for this scholarship please refer here.

2018 EAST Multicenter Trial Junior Investigator Award 

Letters of Intent now closed.  The submission deadline was July 14, 2017.

The EAST Multicenter Trial Junior Investigator Award is to assist a junior primary investigator to successfully conduct and publish a multicenter trial assembling data from five or more centers which seeks to answer an important and novel question in the practice of trauma, acute care surgery or surgical critical care which will change or significantly affect the care of injured or critically ill patients.  This award will be offered July 1, 2018.  The award amount is $6,000 for one (1) year only and the project must be completed within five (5) years.  It is currently funded through a grant from EAST.  While it's not a requirement, the $6,000 award can be applied towards utilizing online data collection portal, a shared resource of EAST and the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST).  The 2018 scholarship deadline for receipt of Letters of Intent was July 14, 2017.  Following receipt of the Letters of Intent, the Multicenter Trials Committee, along with the Chair of the Research-Scholarship Committee and the Research Division Chair will judge the Letters of Intent on the basis of the merit of their proposal and the potential of the applicant of future contributions to change or significantly affect the care of injured or critically ill patients.  The top ranked Letters of Intent will be invited to submit full proposals by October 2, 2017.  The Multicenter Trials Committee, along with the Chair of the Research-Scholarship Committee and Research Division Chair will review full proposals in October 2017 and select the final awardee.  For official rules and regulations for this scholarship please refer here.

Executive Leadership Scholarship

EAST and the American College of Surgeons are pleased to announce a shared scholarship open to members in good standing of EAST and the American College of Surgeons.  

This scholarship supports attendance and participation in the "Executive Leadership Program in Health Policy and Management,"  held annually in June at Brandeis University, Waltham, Massachusetts. Society of Trauma Nurses - EAST Nurse Fellow Program 

EAST in collaboration with the Society of Trauma Nurses (STN) has established a Nurse Fellow program. Applications for the 2018 Nurse Fellow are now open!  The application deadline is August 1, 2017. 

The purpose of the program is to provide exposure of trauma nurses to the EAST Annual Scientific Assembly and gain access to key leaders in trauma care. The Nurse Fellow will be supported for travel, hotel and registration fees made possible by donations to the EAST Development Fund. The successful candidate(s) will be assigned a mentor who will assist the fellow with designing a plan for programs to attend and interviews with leaders. Daily the Nurse Fellow will write a “news brief” that will be sent out via electronic blasts and highlight programs and events from the day. The Fellow will also author an editorial that will be run in the Journal of Trauma Nursing following the meeting to summarize their experience and put out call for future Nurse Fellows. Mentoring from the JTN Editorial Review Board will be provided. The Nurse Fellow will be introduced during the Scientific Assembly and at both the STN Networking Reception and the EAST Business Meeting.  The 2018 EAST Scientific Assembly will be held January 9-13, 2018 at Disney's Contemporary Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
