Anticoagulation and Antiplatelet Reversal in Traumatic Intracranial Hemorrhage2015

Type: New Practice Management Guideline (PMG)
Category: Surgical Critical Care
Committee Liaison: Brian H. Williams, MD, FACS

Team leader(s)

With an ever aging population, an increasing number of patients who present with traumatic intracranial hemorrhage are found to be on anticoagulant and/or antiplatelet medications for pre existing conditions. This puts them at increased risk for worsening ICH and poorer outcomes. Will the advent of so many new types of medications as well as reversal strategies, there is little consensus on the optimal method, timing, and criteria for anticoagulation and antiplatelet medication reversal in trauamtic ICH.
