The magnitude and consequences of sports related concussions has been increasingly recognized nationally and internationally. This topic is relevant across the spectrum of sports from youth leagues to the NFL and impact professional and recreational athletes alike. Many guidelines regarding diagnosis and management have been published in recent years. Despite the increasing attention to this topic, surprisingly little has been published about existing evidence on concussion prevention. As with most traumatic injuries, prevention represents the greatest opportunity to reduce the incidence and morbidity.
