Trauma / Critical Care Surgeon 

The Department of Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center is seeking academically oriented surgeons to join the faculty in the Division of General Surgery in the Trauma/Critical Care Section. Qualified candidates must be board certified and/or eligible by the American Board of Surgery. Candidates should also be eligible for specialty certification in surgical critical care. Responsibilities will include patient care on the Trauma Service and in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, research and teaching. Ample opportunity for general surgery practice also is available. Rank will be based on academic experience and credentials.

The University of Mississippi Medical Center is the state’s only Health Sciences campus. It included Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Health Related Professions, Dentistry and Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences, and the 722-bed University Hospitals and Clinics. Hospital inpatients total 27,000 annually: outpatient and emergency visits total more than 418,000 every year. The hospital is the Level 1 trauma center of the Mississippi Trauma Network. The Medical Center recently completed a $211,000,000 building program which included a new children’s hospital and a new women and infants’ hospital. A six-floor critical care tower opened in 2001. A new 256-bed adult hospital is under construction.
