Baystate Medical Center has an opening for a 1-year ACGME-approved fellowship in Surgical Critical Care beginning July 2012. BMC is a 650-bed tertiary care facility covering western Massachusetts, southern Vermont and northern Connecticut. The hospital is located in Springfield, MA and serves the community as a Level-I Trauma Center that evaluates approximately 3000 and admits 1500 patients per year. The surgical ICU admits more than 500 high-acuity patients per year. Surgical services include a busy emergency general surgery service, surgical oncology, colorectal, pediatric, vascular, transplant, thoracic and minimally invasive surgery. The SCC program is integrated with trauma and acute care surgery, so we prefer applicants who have completed an ACGME-approved surgical training program. Consideration may be given to highly qualified individuals who have completed at least 3-years of general surgery training and have a guaranteed position to complete general surgery. Springfield is centrally located in the Northeast, with easy access to Boston, New York City and the Berkshires as well as the mountains of upstate New York, Vermont and New Hampshire. This rural area is home to many colleges and universities and many of the surrounding communities have highly rated school systems. This is an excellent opportunity for applicants with families.

Program started 2011
