Illinois Masonic Medical Center, a tertiary care facility located on the north side of Chicago, is the primary Level 1 Trauma Center for this area. There are 1,400 trauma admissions per year, 200-300 critical care consults are performed yearly with an injury mix of 75% blunt, 25% penetrating. In addition, we have approximately 300 beds, including a 20 bed state of the art Surgical Intensive Care Unit to accommodate critically injured patients. Our resources include 24/7 consultant availability, in the specialties of neurosurgery, orthopedics, cardiovascular surgery and maxillofacial surgery. In addition, state of the art radiology & interventional radiology services are available.
The Trauma / Critical Care Service currently has four full-time attending surgeons, who are Board certified in general surgery and in surgical critical care. The Service is an independent resident service with a full complement of senior and junior residents, as well as medical students. We also work with the residency program of the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Anesthesia.
