The EAST Mentoring Committee is proud to introduce the 2018 1st quarter "Featured EAST Mentoring Pair", congratulations to Dr. Andrew Bernard, MD, FACS (Mentor) and Dr. Esther Tseng, MD (Mentee)!

Drs. Bernard and Tseng were matched as a 2017 EAST Mentoring Pair as a result of attending the 30th EAST Annual Scientific Assembly, January 10-14, 2017 at The Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood, Florida.  See a photo taken when Dr. Tseng stopped near Dr. Bernard's ‘Old Kentucky Home’ on her way to a new position at Metro Health in Cleveland under the leadership of Dr. Jeff Claridge, the Chair of the EAST Membership Recruitment and Retention Committee and what they have to say regarding their mentorship and the EAST Mentoring Program.

Mentor - Andrew C. Bernard, MD

My mentoring relationship with Dr. Tseng has been nothing but positive.  It’s been low stress, easy to connect on each of our own schedules and always enjoyable when we could catch up.  Every time we meet, the conversation is richer.  The advantage of having an EAST mentor is that they have no preconceptions and no agenda.  My only interest is in my mentee’s well-being and success, inside and outside EAST.

Mentee - Esther Tseng, MD

What a great experience this has been.  I think that we were able to come up with an achievable plan and stick to it, and we've accomplished everything we set out to do last year.  Dr. Bernard and I had the good fortune to not know each other before we started, and I think it made it easy to just listen to each other without any preconceived ideas or judgments.  His advice was invaluable as I was going through the job hunting process and making the transition from trainee to attending.  I hope we'll keep working together as colleagues through EAST and other projects in the future.
