The Department of Surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria and Peoria Surgical Group are seeking a surgeon trained in critical care to join the academic clinical faculty. The position is predominantly clinical, however, there is a teaching component and opportunities for research and professional development.

Our main clinical site is a 600+ bed Level 1 Trauma Center with multiple intensive care units, including a dedicated surgical critical care unit. Our surgeons also support neurosurgery and trauma critical care patients. Full spectrum of care including ventilator management and bedside procedures. Twenty categorical general surgery residents are an integrated part of the practice. Growing volume of trauma activations and acute care surgery. Our Department serves as a referral catch for North Central Illinois and over 1 million patients. High volume of complex and bread and butter pathology.

Strong support from experienced clinical surgeons in a very supportive work environment. Residents are in house call overnight. Attending surgeons are not required to be in house. There is an acute care surgery service that the surgeon will also participate in. Opportunities to grow and maintain a general surgery practice are also present.

Our community has 5 da Vinci robots and continues to grow and expand clinical programs. Our practice includes board certified thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, plastic surgery, colorectal surgery, surgical oncology and surgical critical care as well as MIS trained surgeons.

Candidates should be completing or have completed critical care fellowship and be eligible for/passed boards in surgical critical care. Applicants who are certified prior to board exam creation can be considered if they have greater than 2 years surgical critical care experience.

Applicants must have board certification in general surgery or be eligible.

Applicants should have an interest in resident and medical student education and be prepared to engage scholarly activity. This is not a tenured position and there will not be a research quota.
