Trauma/Acute Care/Surgical Critical Care

The Department of Surgery of Nassau University Medical Center is seeking applications for junior and senior faculty positions for Trauma/Acute Care/Surgical Critical Care. This position also includes elective General Surgery and participation in the robust academic research which supports the Trauma Center. Board certification or eligibility in General Surgery; fellowship training in Trauma Surgery; and board certification or eligibility in Surgical Critical Care are required.

Nassau University Medical Center is an ACS verified level 1 trauma center located in East Meadow, Nassau County, Long Island, New York. The Emergency Department has approximately 70,000 visits per year and the Trauma Program admits approximately 1400 patients each year. The patient mix is 80-85% blunt trauma, and 18% are age 80 and up.

The Department of Surgery includes the Divisions of General Surgery; Trauma and Acute Care Surgery; Surgical Critical Care; Plastic Surgery; Neurosurgery; and Urology. Bariatric surgery, colorectal surgery, vascular surgery, the Burn Center, and Hyperbaric Medicine are also a part of the Department of Surgery.

The Department of Surgery has a fully accredited surgical residency which graduates 3 chiefs each year. There is also a PGY2 resident in research each year to support the Department’s academic endeavors.

The clinical work is assigned in one week blocks for the faculty with each covering the Trauma Service or the Surgical Critical Care Service on a rotating schedule. The Department has the expectation that during the weeks without formal assigned service responsibilities, the faculty is active performing elective General Surgery and participating in administrative and academic responsibilities.

The compensation package include base salary, performance incentives, deferred compensation, 4 weeks annual vacation, health care and sick leave, and the ability to vest in the Nassau County Retirement Pension.
