Acute Care Surgeon

The Division of Acute Care Surgery at St Elizabeth Medical Center is actively seeking a fellowship-trained, BC/BE Critical Care/ACS Surgeon. Successful candidates will be expected to support and expand the emergency general surgery and surgical ICU programs. They will also participate in performance improvement activities and the education of rotating residents and students. The division currently includes four physicians and four nurse practitioners that provide a broad array of clinical services while caring for critically ill patients and emergency general surgery patients. The nurse practitioners provide support on the floor and in critical care units.

Applicants with fellowship training in acute care surgery and/or surgical critical care will be preferred. Cardiovascular Intensive Care unit and ECMO experience is desirable but not required.

Our current Surgical ICU is a 10 bed unit that houses emergency general surgery and elective surgical patients from many surgical subspecialties, including thoracic, neurosurgery, surgical oncology and vascular surgery. This ICU will be expanded to 16 beds in 2020, with construction underway.

Located at the main campus, we are the referral center for the St Elizabeth system -- which includes 4 hospitals, 2 free standing emergency departments and multiple free-standing urgent care centers in the tri-state area. The main campus has 22 operating rooms, one of which is acute care surgery dedicated. There are 44 operating rooms system-wide. There is a system-wide mature EMR. There is advanced imaging technology and 24/7 interventional radiology

The system includes ACGME residency in Family Medicine, medical students and PA students from regional schools and has an affiliation with the newly developed University of Kentucky medical school.
