EAST Mentoring Program

EAST is pleased to announce the 2019 EAST Mentoring Program for EAST members.  This program is under the direction of the EAST Mentoring Committee.  The goal of the Mentoring Program is to promote the academic and personal growth of the young trauma and acute care surgeon by providing extramural mentorship over a 1-year period.

The submission deadline to apply to the 2019 EAST Mentoring Program was August 30, 2019.  The 2020 EAST Mentoring Program will open in the Spring of 2020.

New this year!  The 2019 program is implementing a multi-tiered approach to mentoring including a team of early career, mid-level career and senior career medical professionals to form a four-person “Mentoring Family”.

We expect teams to develop and submit an annual strategic plan, communicate with each other consistently, meet each other annually, and hopefully develop a long-term relationship.  The hope is that at the conclusion of the 1-year mentoring year all team members will have had the opportunity to learn, grow, and develop through their “Mentoring Family”.  Each “Mentoring Family” will consist of the following team members:

Team Member #1
Senior Career Mentor/Adviser
  • Founding, Senior, or Emeritus Member of EAST

Team Member #2
Mid-Level Career Mentor
  • Active or Associate Member of EAST who is more than 5-years out of training

Team Member #3
Early Career Mentee #1
  • Active, Associate, Provisional, Fellow-In-Training, or Medical Student Member of EAST who is currently in training, or within five years of completion

Team Member #4
Early Career Mentee #2
  • Active, Associate, Provisional, Fellow-In-Training, or Medical Student Member of EAST who is currently in training, or within five years of completion

We believe that every member no matter what stage they are at in their professional career has something to learn and offer and will be able to accomplish both through the structure of a multi-tiered mentoring program.  The hope is that at the conclusion of the 1-year mentoring year all team members will have had the opportunity to learn, grow, and develop through their “Mentoring Family”.
