Dear Colleagues Its hard to believe we are almost at the end the year but in this productive year EAST has flourished. We accomplished expanding on social media adding new benefits and growing as an organization. Our mission continues to move forward. From our ongoing social media presence including the addition of a Twitter Journal Club monthly literature reviews and en- hancing online programs EAST continues to enrich services for members. Next up is our Annual Scientific Assembly with new content revamped sessions and ongoing exceptional programming. Dr. Andrew Bernard and the Annual Scientific Assembly Section have helped shape what is certain to be a memorable meeting. Highlights include the Raymond H. Alexander MD Resident Paper Competition the Cox-Templeton Injury Prevention Paper Competition and more. New this year Bridging the Gap A Fellows Workshop and sunrise sessions have now become Todays Topics. With this Scientific Assembly the framework continues to fall under our taglineAdvancing Science Fostering Relationships and Building Careers. In fact along with our growing social media presence we will not only continue to use EAST2016 to promote the meeting but these subheadings throughout advancingscience fosteringrelationships buildingcareers. Keep spreading the EAST message by retweeting onsite. This year has seen growth in many areas of the organization and I have been proud to be a part of it. EAST stays nimble and brings forth its core mission with every project we undertake. EAST Vision Statement EAST seeks to improve care of the injured by provid- ing a forum for the exchange of knowledge in the prac- tice of trauma surgery to promote trauma prevention research and improved trauma systems design to encourage investigation and teaching of the methods of preventing and treating trauma and to stimulate future generations of sur- geons to meet the challenge. Section appointments are made annually by the EAST President. A Call for Volunteers is also conducted annually in the fall. Information is available on the EAST website and the call is announced via email and electronic communication. Some of the favorite sessions and workshops have stayed the same and as usual we have revamped the line-up and added new programs. These overarching themes can be found throughout the Scientific Assembly both inside and outside the conference rooms. Careercasts are designed to provide you with practical information regarding career development leadership and career challenges. The Traumacasts address current medical and treatment issues being faced by EAST members. Twitter Journal Club Born out of the power of social media the EAST Twitter Journal Club has allowed members to gath- er in an online forum to discuss scientific articles. Its topical interactive and fluid allowing for vibrant discussion relevant to members. 2015 has had six thus far and they will continue in 2016.
