EAST news | 2018 Issue 4 2 EAST Mission Statement EAST is a scientific organization providing lead- ership and development for young surgeons active in the care of the injured patient through interdisciplinary collaboration, scholarship, and fellowship. EAST Vision Statement EAST seeks to improve care of the injured by provid- ing a forum for the exchange of knowledge in the prac- tice of trauma surgery; to promote trauma prevention, research, and improved trauma systems design; to encourage investigation and teaching of the methods of preventing and treating trauma; and to stimulate future generations of sur- geons to meet the challenge. Message from the President (continued from page 1) EAST Annual Scientific Assembly that will highlight the opportunities that equity can bring to an individual, a team, and an organization. Highlights of the Equity, Quality and Inclusion in Trauma Surgery Practice Ad Hoc Task Force activities are available on Twitter using #EAST4All. No matter how divided the world may seem, we find unity and common goals in trauma care and in EAST. With over 2,000 members one might think that it would be difficult to achieve consensus, but let’s not under-estimate ourselves. Finding order in times of chaos is our specialty. In today’s chaotic world, EAST continues to find consensus on important issues like best practice, firearm injury, and professional equity. Let’s celebrate our similarities. It has been my greatest honor serving as your President. Looking through our shared lens, I see a bright future for EAST and its members. I hope to see you in January. Sincerely, Andrew C. Bernard, MD, FACS EAST President ‘Tis the season of giving personally and professionally. In the spirit of the holidays, we encouraged you to participate in #GivingTuesday and support our organization. EAST asked, and you gave! Thank you to all the donors who supported EAST on #GivingTuesday this November. You helped raise $30,550 — far surpassing our goal of $20,000! When you consider that trauma is one of the most poorly funded areas of research relative to disease burden, your contributions are vital to shaping the future of trauma research. Thank you for your outstanding show of support. If you missed #GivingTuesday, there’s still time to make a contribution before the end of the year. In lieu of that coffee today, consider a $5 donation or a long-term investment by opting in for recurring donations. Thank you for your generosity. Donations large and small continue to strengthen our organization year after year. thank you! Give the Gift that Keeps Giving
