Surgical Critical Care Fellowship
A one-year ACGME Residency Review Committee (RRC) accredited program focused on the care of critically ill trauma and surgery patients. The fellow actively participates in the daily bedside rounds, and leading residents through bedside procedures. The fellow will learn critical care ultrasonography and the use of bedside echocardiography in resuscitation and patient management.

Eight months are spent on direct care of surgical and trauma ICU patients. Rotations on the Neurocritical Care, Heart & Vascular, Burn and Neonatal ICU’s are available tailored to the fellow’s career goals.

Acute Care Surgery Fellowship
A two-year program comprising of one year of Surgical Critical Care and the AAST-approved Acute Care Surgery. On this track, the fellow will have the opportunity to develop a more in-depth understanding of the pathophysiology and management of acute surgical patients. The fellow is fully integrated into the Trauma and Emergency General Surgery service, granted graduated autonomy and independent decision making with the intention to eventually function as a junior faculty very early in the fellowship. Further in-depth exposure and cases are provided by: Surgical Oncology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, The Regional Burn and Wound Center, Interventional Radiology and other clinical specialty services complementing Miami Valley Hospital.

Qualifications: Only applicants who meet the following prerequisites qualify for consideration:

Completion of an approved general surgery residency
Board eligibility or certification by the American Board of Surgery
A strong interest to teach medical students and residents
Ability to obtain a State of Ohio Medical License
A strong history of professionalism and ethical behavior in the workplace
US citizenship or green card

Research is encouraged and opportunities are available, supported by a fulltime Ph.D. basic science faculty and a BSN, RN; both dedicated to assist in the departmental research.
