The Sparrow Hospital MSU Surgical Critical Care fellowship is an ACGME accredited 1-year Surgical Critical Care Fellowship. Sparrow is a 590-bed hospital of which 49 are designated adult intensive care beds and 12 are designated pediatric intensive care beds.

Sparrow Hospital captures a large volume of trauma and critical care patients in mid-Michigan. Injured patients seen in the Sparrow ED are approximately 90% blunt and 10% penetrating. The Sparrow Critical Care team works closely with community and academic partners in Acute Care Surgery, Cardiovascular, Thoracic, Urology, Orthopedic trauma and plastic/reconstructive surgery teams to provide quality care in the ICU.

The fellowship focuses on developing a broad skill set in Critical Care. The curriculum involves core rotations with the Surgical Critical Care, Medical Critical Care, and Pediatric Critical Care teams. Available electives are tailored to the fellow’s areas of interest.

Qualifications: Successful applicants will be Board Certified General Surgeons or have completed an ACGME certified General Surgery Training program prior to the start of this fellowship.

Research opportunities

Each fellow will have the opportunity to arrange for a research rotation and mentorship with the goal of presentation and publication.
