The 12 month clinical program will involve eight months directly involved in critical care management. Time will be divided between the Surgical ICU and the Trauma ICU. Comprehensive training will include clinical management, administrative policy, clinical research, and resident and medical student education. Fellows will have one month vacation, which allows an additional three months for elective rotations. Those fellows who desire training in trauma and acute care surgery will run a busy trauma and emergency general surgery service. Additional exposure to image guided surgery is integrated into this service. Those fellows not wanting a trauma surgery exposure will be provided elective rotations in cardiothoracic critical care and pediatric critical care. The program is also able to offer concentrated training in Burn Surgery, as well as, a combined critical care training program and Masters of Public Health (MPH) through the School of Public Health. Formal educational time includes weekly conferences, journal club, morbidity and mortality conference, and a monthly multidisciplinary critical care conference.

Qualifications: Given the nature of the training program, individuals who have completed a general surgery training program will be given priority. Consideration will be given for those candidates who have completed a minimum of 3-years of training with strong letters of recommendation and a guaranteed position to complete general surgery.
