Assistant/Associate/Professor-Trauma/Surgical Critical Care Surgery

OSF HealthCare, Inc., and the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria, Department of Surgery, is hiring academic BC/BE Acute Care Surgeons for our high acuity level 1 trauma center, surgical and trauma ICUs, and high-volume emergency general surgery program. Both new fellowship graduates and practicing surgeons will be considered with preference towards those driven in academic and clinical excellence. Candidates will be eligible for rank of Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor based on their current rank and experience.

This individual will provide patient care for critically ill and injured surgical patients. Additional responsibilities include providing education and mentorship to medical students, residents, and fellows. This division supervises 2-4 acute care surgery fellows per year. An advanced education model for faculty based on focused rapid, intense skill acquisition (FRISA) opportunities with experts in critical care ultrasound, vascular, thoracic, and other specialty areas. Fellows and faculty can also refresh high-volume penetrating trauma skills through a collaboration with trauma centers in Chicago. Faculty are encouraged to develop an area of clinical expertise.

This individual will also participate in quality improvement activities and develop initiatives, programs, and research studies in collaboration with other attending physicians, residents, and medical students. A strong research program infrastructure exists, and there are multiple opportunities for engagement in local, regional, and national professional societies.

Candidates must hold or be eligible for an Illinois medical license and must be BC/BE in General Surgery, and BC/BE in Surgical Critical Care to attend in the ICUs. Priority given to candidates who have ATLS or ASSET instructor status. Strong teaching abilities and interpersonal skills are essential.

Position responsibilities include:
• Perform inpatient and outpatient care on a teaching service as an attending physician for all emergency surgical services.
• Supervise and support acute care surgery fellows.
• Serve on appropriate hospital committees to improve the quality of patient care.
• Perform duties in a manner that complies with all applicable standards, rule, policies and regulations of the hospital, the University of Illinois, Joint Commission and applicable local, state and federal regulations.
• Perform basic science, clinical, or education research and collaborate with other faculty, fellows, residents and medical students on research projects.
