SUNY Upstate Medical University Burn Surgeon
The Department of Surgery at Upstate Medical University is seeking an academic surgeon with fellowship training and/or on the job experience in Burn Surgery to join the full-time faculty at the Assistant or Associate Professor of Surgery level. Additional expertise in Trauma, Emergency General Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care is preferred. The Clark Burn Center at Upstate Medical University Hospital is an ABA adult and pediatric verified burn center as well as an ACS verified Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Centers. The trauma program has provided trauma care, emergency general surgery and critical care services since 1990. The Clark Burn Center has been a regional resource since 1975. The Burn Center provides care for burn and dermal injuries serving 42 counties, encompassing approximately 2.7 million inhabitants of central New York. The burn center currently treats about 300 inpatients, more than 1500 outpatient burns annually and is continuing to experience significant regional growth. The successful candidate is expected to play an integral role with the current burn surgery team in providing intensive, acute and reconstructive surgical care for patients with burn injuries. In addition, the candidate would be expected to participate in the care of trauma, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery patients. The adult trauma program at Upstate University Hospital has approximately 2400 admissions per year and is one of NY state’s busiest trauma programs.
Fellowship training in burn surgery or commensurate experience is strongly preferred. The candidate must be board-certified or eligible in General Surgery and Critical Care. The candidate will also be expected to participate in teaching and training medical students and surgery residents. They will be employed by the University Surgical Associates (Department of Surgery) and will be eligible for a faculty appointment at SUNY Upstate Medical University and Upstate University Hospital.
