Acute Care Surgeon
The Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking an acute care surgeon to join the faculty of a dynamic and growing Division of Acute Care and Regional General Surgery.

The Acute Care Surgeon will be based primarily at University Hospital, an American College of Surgeons designated Level I Trauma Center and American Burn Association verified Burn Center. University Hospital providers and staff treat more than 3,000 trauma patients each year. The selected candidate will participate in one or more services within the Division, including Trauma, Burn and Wound, Emergency General Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care. The successful candidate will be a highly qualified acute care surgeon committed to delivering high-quality patient care. In addition, competitive candidates will be motivated to develop a scholarly clinical, translational, or basic science research program. The successful candidate will also participate in professional, public, and university service.
For those appointed to the CHS title track, academic responsibilities will include teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.
Degree and area of specialization:
MD, DO, or equivalent with additional training in surgical critical care required, and trauma, burn and/or emergency general surgery preferred
Candidate is required to have or be eligible for a Wisconsin medical license. Board certification or Board Eligible in Surgery and Surgical Critical Care through the American Board of Surgery or American Osteopathic Board of Surgery or equivalent. Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Candidate is required to be board eligible or board certified in Surgery by the American Board of Surgery, American Osteopathic Board of Surgery, or equivalent. Board eligibility or board certification in Surgical Critical Care by the American Board of Surgery, American Osteopathic Board of Surgery, or equivalent is required.
Completion of a fellowship in surgical critical care is required.
Completion of a fellowship in burn, acute care surgery or trauma is preferred.
Candidates must possess clinical and academic credentials sufficient for appointment at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank. Appointment as associate professor will require that candidate's credentials meet criteria for rank established by UW School of Medicine and Public Health Guidelines.
