Division Chief; Associate Professor or full Professor, Division of Acute Care Surgery

Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) is seeking a Division Chief of Acute Care Surgery within the Department of Surgery with leadership experience. The candidate will be a board-certified surgeon and should be eligible for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level. The candidate will be expected to have responsibility and oversight for all operational and programmatic aspects within the division. The individual will actively participate in medical student, resident and fellow education through didactic lectures, research activities, evaluation of programs, interviews, small group sessions and/or clinical supervision. In addition, the Division Chief will be expected to participate in all facets of clinical care including trauma, emergency general surgery, surgical critical care and mentoring of more junior faculty at all sites that care is administered.

The division provides the majority of its clinical services at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH - part of the Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health system - RWJBH) in New Brunswick, NJ, which is the primary teaching hospital for RWJMS and one of only three ACS verified Level I Trauma Centers in the state. The faculty respond to approximately 2800 trauma activations per year, perform over 1000 emergency general surgery cases per year and have clinical duties in the surgical and cardiothoracic surgery intensive care unit. RWJUH is a tertiary care referral center for cardiac, vascular and neuroscience and is home to the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the state’s only NCI designated cancer center. We also provide critical care coverage for RWJBH Somerset Hospital. The ICU at RWJ Somerset admits over 1500 critically ill patients annually.

RWJBH is the largest health system in NJ, consisting of 11 acute care hospitals serving a population of 5 million individuals across the state. Rutgers University, a member of the Big 10 Conference, is the state university for NJ with a student enrollment exceeding 67,000. New Brunswick is located in central NJ, less than an hour commute to New York City, Philadelphia, as well as the Atlantic Ocean.
