Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) is seeking acute care surgeons for faculty appointments in the Department of Surgery, Division of Acute Care Surgery at the assistant or associate professor levels. Clinical and educational leadership opportunities are available to the right candidate. Candidates will be expected to participate in all facets of patient care including trauma, emergency general surgery and surgical critical care. As an academic medical system, the applicant must be dedicated to the teaching of medical students, residents and fellows. Research opportunities are also available. Our division provides the majority of its clinical services at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) in New Brunswick, NJ, which is the primary teaching hospital for RWJMS and one of only three ACS verified Level I Trauma Centers in the state. The faculty respond to approximately 2800 trauma activations per year, perform over 1000 emergency general surgery cases per year and have clinical duties in the surgical and cardiothoracic surgery intensive care unit as well. RWJUH is a tertiary care referral center for cardiac, vascular and neuroscience services and is home to the Cancer Institute of New Jersey. We also provide critical care coverage for Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health Somerset Hospital. The ICU at RWJ Somerset admits over 1500 critically ill patients annually. RWJBarnabas Health is the largest health system in NJ serving a population of 5 million. Rutgers University, a member of the Big 10 Conference, is the state university for NJ with a student enrollment exceeding 67,000. New Brunswick is located in central NJ, less than an hour commute to New York City, Philadelphia, as well as the Atlantic Ocean. The state is recognized for its outstanding public school systems and quality of life.
