Acute Care Surgeon

The Rutgers – New Jersey Medical School, Division of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care in the Department of Surgery is seeking applications for a full-time Academic Trauma/General Surgeon at the Instructor/Assistant/Associate Professor level. Applicants must have a strong interest in clinical practice of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care and Emergency General Surgery. In addition, applicants need to demonstrate a commitment to scientific research in either basic science, clinical trials or health services research. Successful candidates will be expected to develop their interest into a program of credible scholarship. The New Jersey Trauma Center is the busiest Level I Trauma Center in New Jersey with over 3,500 trauma activations and 2,200 trauma admissions annually consisting of a mix of 75% blunt and 25% penetrating trauma. The SICU predominantly cares for trauma, general surgical and liver transplant patients.

Primary duties will be to provide care to patients on the trauma, surgical critical care and emergency general surgical services. This includes attending coverage on the Trauma, SICU and EGS services at University Hospital and the EGS service at St. Barnabas. The faculty member will have responsibility for education of fellows, residents and medical students on those services. In addition, the faculty member will assist with AAST/ACGME-approved acute care surgical fellowship.

Candidates must be board certified/eligible in general surgery and be able to sit for the certificate of added qualifications in surgical critical care. You must also be eligible for licensure in the State of New Jersey.
