Associate Trauma Medical Director

The Department of Surgery at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSCEP) is seeking an associate trauma medical director to enhance our established acute care surgery program encompassing trauma, surgical critical care, emergency general surgery and burns. Responsibilities include guiding the trauma program’s quality initiatives as the TQIP champion. The candidate should enjoy teaching surgical critical care fellows, residents and medical students as well as pursuing research and other scholarly activities within the Surgery Department. This is an excellent opportunity for a leadership role as the Surgery Department grows clinically and academically as a regional referral center.
The successful candidate will be employed by TTUHSCEP at an academic rank commensurate with qualifications. The surgeon will provide patient care at University Medical Center of El Paso and El Paso Children’s Hospital. UMC-EP is the only ACS-verified Level 1 trauma center for a 270-mile radius. The trauma center admitted 3,934 injured patients in 2021 from a catchment area of 1.3M individuals in far west Texas and southern New Mexico. TTUHSCEP is one of five independent universities in the Texas Tech University System. The Health Sciences Center consists of the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, the Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing, the L. Frederick Francis Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and the Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine.
El Paso is the 6th most populous city in Texas and the 22nd in the United States. In 2018, El Paso was ranked as the city with the lowest cost of living by Forbes magazine and the second safest city in the U.S. Exceptional public schools and private schools are available. The city has minor league baseball and soccer, symphony, museums, excellent dining options and shopping. The El Paso International Airport is easy to access, making travel simple and efficient. One can enjoy living in the mountains and skiing is just two hours away.

How to apply

The position requires a M.D. /D.O. degree, completion of an ACGME approved residency in general surgery and successful completion of a surgical critical care fellowship as well as board certification/eligibility in general surgery and surgical critical care. The position is a full-time appointment at TTUHSC-EP and the salary is competitive.
