Trauma Surgeon/Surgical Critical Care

Novant Health – New Hanover Regional Medical Center is seeking a sixth Acute Care Surgeon with a minimum of two years of combined experience in trauma, emergency general surgery, and critical care. Candidates must have a strong commitment to an academic career and be board certified/eligible in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.
Previous experience in clinical research is preferred. Successful candidates will be expected to provide exceptional patient care in a multidisciplinary setting, contribute to the education of medical students and residents/fellows, demonstrate teamwork with Advanced Practice Providers and contribute to increase the research productivity of the Surgery Department. Skill sets related to the complex care of trauma, vascular, and emergency general surgical patients are ideal. NHRMC is a site of a well-established ACGME General Surgery residency program and faculty appointment with University of North Caroline-School of Medicine. Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (BLS/CPR) certification required. ATLS Instructor status preferred. We are affiliated with the University of North Carolina and the successful candidate will be appointed as Assistant or Associate Professor based on experience.

New Hanover Regional Medical Center is a not-for-profit health care system serving southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina. A teaching hospital, regional referral center, and Level 2 Trauma Center, NHRMC provides a wide range of health care services. Our Acute Care Surgery Division is organized into three service lines: Trauma, ICU, and Emergency General Surgery. These service lines are supported by midlevel providers as well as residents. We are proud to be one of the busiest Level 2 trauma centers in the country, with over 6,000 patients seen by the acute care surgery service lines annually. Our penetrating trauma rate is 9%. The sixth candidate will help us expand our current division of five surgeons in response to this ongoing regional growth as we build towards attaining American College of Surgeons Level 1 status.
