Trauma Research Surgeon

The University of Chicago's Department of Surgery, Section of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, is searching for full-time faculty members at any rank. Appointees will contribute to patient care, medical education, and scholarship. They will join a vibrant and distinguished community of faculty colleagues and learners in UChicago Medicine, the Biological Science Division, the Pritzker School of Medicine, and the University of Chicago and its affiliates. A tradition of excellence in patient care, basic, clinical, and translational sciences, combined with the strengths of one of the world's top academic institutions provides the foundation for a career as an academic physician.

The Section of Trauma Surgery has launched both surgical critical care and trauma fellowships. Other duties will include teaching and supervision of trainees and students, and scholarly activity.

We especially welcome applicants with a track record of peer-reviewed funding in health services research as evidenced by NIH or similar grants and a commitment to working in academic medicine. Areas of research interest include basic science research, translational research in trauma and surgical critical care, research related to injury response, trauma care, trauma prevention, healthcare disparities, innovative approaches to urban healthcare delivery and/or other broad areas related to the mission of an academic level 1 trauma center.

Academic rank and compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are dependent upon qualifications.

The UCM has been at the forefront of medical care since 1927. Located in historic Hyde Park, the primary medical campus includes the Center for Care and Discovery, Comer Children's Hospital, Bernard A. Mitchell Hospital for adult inpatient care, and the Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine (DCAM) totaling more than 550 beds in service and net patient care revenues over $1.4 billion. Plans are underway for a new trauma program and an additional 150-bed patient tower. New ambulatory facilities are located in Orland Park and the South Loop, and the Ingalls Health System has recently integrated into the network.

The University of Chicago has established Level 1 adult trauma services on its Hyde Park medical campus, supplementing the existing Level 1 pediatric trauma services and the Burn and Complex Wound Center.
