Trauma Surgeon / Trauma Medical Director - Jefferson Health Northeast

Jefferson Northeast, an accredited Level II trauma center, is recruiting for a Trauma Medical Director.   Located in northeast Philadelphia and part of the Jefferson Health system, Jefferson Northeast is a busy trauma center with over 2000 contacts per year coupled with a high level of acuity.

The Trauma Medical Director will provide clinical and administrative leadership and oversight for all trauma operations.

Major responsibilities include:

Maintenance of requirements and standards set forth by the accrediting bodies of the Pennsylvania Trauma System Foundation (PTSF) and American College of Surgeons (ACS)
Lead and maintain a rigorous Performance Improvement and Patient safety process and monitor participation by the staff and other required disciplines.
Implement all trauma program policies and procedures as they pertain to patient care including annual reviews of clinical practice guidelines.
Oversight of all clinical care and integration of the trauma program with all other departments and services within the hospital.
Monitoring of quality metrics and measures as put forth by the ACS Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) data and implement and monitor any necessary changes and improvements to ensure high quality practices.
Participate in and implement hospital wide quality measures and metrics
Work with the Jefferson system at an enterprise level to coordinate and align trauma practices and protocols with Jefferson’s other trauma centers.
Work with the Chair of surgery to further development and integrate an acute care surgery service.
Act as the Surgical co-director for the ICU and participate in the Acute Care Committee
Oversee the professional evaluation of staff, including credentialing and monitoring of quality
Maintain ATLS instructor status and CME’s as required by standards.
Participation in the trauma call schedule including the resuscitation and/or surgery of multi-system trauma patients
Responsible for the trauma call schedule and assignment of duties.
Oversight of resident education and participation per ACGME guidelines
Oversight and evaluation of Advance Practice Professionals.


MD or DO Board certified in General Surgery  
Fellowship in Surgical Critical Care, Trauma or Acute Care Surgery
Minimum of four years of experience in the care of the acute trauma patient
