Medical Director, Trauma Surgery

Maine Medical Partners is seeking an experienced, Fellowship-trained Trauma Surgeon to serve as Trauma Medical Director at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.

This is an exciting opportunity for candidates to develop the local and regional strategic direction of the trauma program and service line at Maine Medical Center, a leader in rural trauma in the US. The Trauma Medical Director is a clinical partner in the Acute Care Surgery Division (12 surgeons) which provides trauma, burn/soft tissue, surgical critical care and emergency general surgery coverage. The Trauma Medical Director also works closely with the Trauma Program Director and colleagues to ensure the quality and safety of trauma and burn surgery to injured patients with the focus of maintaining Level I trauma center verification status.

Candidates must be Board Certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care with Fellowship training in Trauma or Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care, with at least 7 years of clinical experience in Trauma and exceptional leadership skills in an academic setting and experience in trauma center verification. The successful candidate will report to the Chief of Surgery and CEO for the Trauma Service line and for employment, the Trauma Medical Director will report to the Division Director of Acute Care Surgery.

Maine Medical Center has 700 licensed beds and is the state’s leading tertiary care hospital and only Level I Trauma Center, with a full complement of residencies and fellowships and integration with Tufts University Medical School. The successful candidate will be employed by Maine Medical Partners (MMP), a subsidiary of Maine Medical Center and Maine’s largest multi-specialty group, serving patients throughout the state and in Northern New England. This high quality team of 600+ physicians and 350+ advanced practice professionals is based at Maine Medical Center and delivers care through a network of 54 locations across the State and acts as a regional referral network.

Candidates will lead, coordinate and regularly participate in medical student, resident, fellowship and advanced practice provider didactic lectures in Acute Care Surgery topics, and will have a faculty appointment at the Tufts University School of Medicine.
