Trauma Surgeon

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Division of Trauma, Burns, Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine is recruiting for an acute care/trauma surgeon to join the Division at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor Level. This person will join either the Clinical-X or Health Sciences Clinical Series.

The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the Clinical-X Series and Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.

The division manages the only ACS-verified Adult Level 1 Trauma Center in Orange County as well as a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, with 5400 trauma activations for a county of 3.2 million people. The faculty also manage our ACS and ABA-verified Regional Burn Center, the Emergency General Surgery Service, and a busy 24 bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit. The division faculty oversee an outstanding ACGME-accredited Surgical Critical Care Fellowship (3 fellows/year).

Requirements – An M.D. or D.O., American Board of Surgery certification/eligibility in surgery with added qualification in surgical critical care, and a California medical license are required.

Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with training, qualifications, and experience. Strong interest and demonstrated abilities in delivering patient care in an academic clinical setting, teaching residents, fellows, and medical students, clinical research, and providing service to the University are required.
A strong background in clinical and/or basic science research with expertise and interest in pursuing extramural funding will be preferred.
