Statement:
In 2018 the ACS published a statement on PTSD in pediatric trauma patients, which highlighted that 20-40% of patients with injury and their parents exhibit high levels of PTSD. The ACS recommended that pediatric trauma programs implement standardized screening for PTSD using evidence-based screening tools that are integrated into electronic medical records. A large literature documents the prevalence of PTSD in pediatric patients with injury and multiple evidence-based screening tools exist. However, there is no consensus or guidance on which screening tools to use in different settings or across different developmental stages. Clear clinical practice guidelines rooted in evidence are needed for pediatric trauma programs in order to meet the ACS recommendations.
