Antimotility Agents in Diarrhea2016

Type: New Practice Management Guideline (PMG)
Category: Surgical Critical Care
Committee Liaison: To be determined

Team leader(s)

Diarrhea is a common GI complication encountered in the surgical ICU which can result in fluid/electrolyte imbalances and skin breakdown. Medical therapy (loperamide, diphenoxylate/atropine) is available but inconsistently prescribed. This PMG will help clinicians to understand the indications and use of these agents.
