The purposes for which EAST is organized (EAST's exempt purpose) are to furnish leadership and to foster advances in the surgery of trauma; to afford a forum for the exchange of knowledge pertaining to injury control, research, practice, and training in prevention, care, and rehabilitation of injury; to stimulate investigation and teaching in the methods of preventing, correcting, and treating injuries from all types of accidents; to enhance the study and practice of the surgery of trauma by establishing lectureships, scholarships, foundations, and appropriate evaluation procedures to afford recognition to individuals working in these fields by extending to them membership in the association; to do and engage in any and all lawful activities that may be incidental or reasonably related to any of the foregoing purposes.
Qualification for active membership requires an applicant to be a licensed physician, active in the field of trauma residing in the United States and in possession of a valid certificate from a surgical board which is a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Physicians who are not yet board certified may join EAST as a Provisional member. Physicians from other countries are also welcome as international members. Other health care professionals may join as associate members (see chart below for membership categories and eligibility requirements).
Those applying for membership in EAST will be required to acknowledge and agree to the EAST terms of membership and mission, vision, and goals. Please review the Membership Agreement and EAST Mission, Vision, and Goals before you apply.
Application Deadlines and Timeline for Membership Approval
Thank you for your interest in applying for membership at the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma. Our online application system is closed (as of November 15) but will reopen July 1. If you would like to be notified when the membership application system is available again, please add your name to this form, and we will contact you.
Applications that were completed before the November 15 deadline will be reviewed and presented for approval at the Annual Business Meeting held in January the year following the application deadline. Applications completed after the deadline will be deleted from the system, and you will need to reapply and pay appropriate application fees when the application cycle opens again July 1.

Complete the personal statement section of the application
Member Sponsors - All Active, Senior, Provisional, and Fellow-in-Training applicants are required to have at least two EAST Active or Senior member sponsors. You will be required to list three names and two must agree to sponsor your application. Those applying for Medical Student or International membership are required to have one EAST Active or Senior member sponsor. You will be required to list two names and one must agree to sponsor your application. Those applying for Associate membership are required to have two EAST Active, Senior, or Associate member sponsors. You will be required to list three names and two must agree to sponsor your application. Before selecting your sponsors, you are encouraged to contact them personally and ask if they will be willing to sponsor your membership in EAST. Sponsor requests will be sent automatically via email upon submission of your application. Sponsors must complete the online attestation by the November 15th application deadline or your application will not be considered. Hard copies or email copies of sponsorship cannot be accepted.

To join our organization, follow the easy steps in the online application system. Once you initiate the process, you may check back here and follow the status of your application. Applications not completed by the November 15th deadline will be deleted from the system. All information, which includes completed sponsor attestations and receipt of the application fee, must be submitted online and received by the November 15th application deadline. If all required information is not submitted/received by the deadline, your application will not be considered and your application will be deleted from the system.
