COURSE CONTENT

The course remains committed to addressing relevant surgical/medical diseases and injuries in the three major categories of Acute Care Surgery: emergency general surgery, trauma, and critical care. The classic point/counterpoint (pro/con) format allows for optimal critical analyses of the current body of evidence on specific diseaseentities and injuries.

Day 1 will focus on specific management issues in trauma and the related controversies. The State-of- the-Art Lecturer will be David Hoyt, MD, FACS, Executive Director of the American College of Surgeons.

Day 2 is devoted to standard-of-care management for various problems in emergency general surgery. The State-of-the-Art Lecture (Charles Wolferth, Jr., MD Memorial Lecture) will be given by Dr. Michael Rotondo, Professor of Surgery at University of Rochester Medical Center.

Day 3 will focus on the ongoing controversies in critical care management. Dr. Deborah Stein will be the featured State-of-the-Art Lecturer for this day.
