Trauma and Critical Care Surgeon

Saint Louis University, a Catholic Jesuit university dedicated to education, research, health care, and community service is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible general surgeon with a surgical critical care fellowship to join the Division of Trauma Surgery in a full time, open rank, academic appointment within the Saint Louis University School of Medicine.

SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital provides adult Level I trauma services for both Missouri and Illinois with 2,400 trauma admissions per year (20% penetrating). SLU Hospital, located in the heart of Midtown St. Louis, is an academic teaching facility with 356 beds and 65 ICU beds which has been serving the St. Louis region for over 70 years. SSM Health in conjunction with Saint Louis University and SLUCare Physician Group is building a state of the art, 802,000-square-foot, 550 million dollar expansion to SLU Hospital with an expected completion date of 2020.

Saint Louis University is host to the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine, Center for Sustainment of Trauma and Readiness Skills (C-STARS), one of only three worldwide. Saint Louis University physicians along with full time C-STARS staff members prepare military medical service personnel for deployment, using state of the art trauma simulation labs and supervised patient care.

Responsibilities include being a member of a close-knit trauma team, working in an ACS verified Level I trauma center; collaborating with an ACGME accredited General Surgery Residency, as well as a Surgical Critical Care fellowship; and covering not only emergent, but also elective general surgery. The trauma team includes all levels of house staff and mid-level providers. Call is approximately 1/6. Qualified candidates are expected to show a dedication to trauma/critical care, possess excellent clinical skills, and a strong commitment to research and teaching.
