The Department of Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) is seeking academically oriented surgeons to join the faculty in the Division of General Surgery in the Trauma/Critical Care section. Qualified candidates must be board certified and/or eligible by the American Board of Surgery. Candidates should also be eligible for specialty certification in surgical critical care. Responsibilities will include patient care on the Trauma Service and in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, research, and teaching. Ample opportunity for general surgery practice also is available. Rank will be based on academic experience and credentials. UMMC is the state's only health sciences campus. It includes Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Health Related Professions, Dentistry, Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences, and Population Health, and the 697-bed University Hospitals and Clinics. Hospital inpatients total 35,000 annually; outpatient and emergency visits total more than 773,000 every year. The hospital is the Level 1 trauma center of the Mississippi Trauma Network. The Medical Center recently opened a $76 million medical education building and is constructing a $180 million expansion of its children’s facilities.
