Acute Care Surgeon

The Department of Surgery at the University of South Alabama (USA) is seeking a Board Certified/Eligible Surgeon at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to join the faculty in the Division of Acute Care Surgery in Mobile, Alabama. The University of South Alabama is a Level I Trauma Center with over 2,000 trauma admissions per year. The Surgical/Trauma Intensive Care Unit (STICU) has 16 beds and admits over 700 patients per year. The STICU is staffed by the division’s trauma surgeons. The division has an ACGME approved surgical critical care fellowship. Candidates should have a keen interest in academic surgery in the areas of patient care, medical education, and trauma and critical care-related clinical and translational research. Dedicated time for basic science and translational research is available through collaboration with the University of South Alabama’s Center for Lung Biology. Applicants should be fellowship trained in surgical critical care. Clinical responsibilities include development of clinical practice guidelines, process improvement, trauma call, and patient care. Teaching responsibilities with general surgery residents, critical care fellows and medical students is an integral part of the program. The Mobile metropolitan area is located minutes from the white sand beaches of the Alabama and Florida coasts.
