Division Chief of Trauma
District Medical Group (DMG), one of the largest multi-specialty medical groups in Metropolitan Phoenix, has an immediate practice opportunity for a Chief of the Division of Trauma Surgery, Surgical Critical Care and ACS.
The Surgery Department at Maricopa Medical Center (MMC), a 300-bed academic community ‘county’ hospital is a designated ACS and State of Arizona Level I Adult/Level II Pediatric Trauma/Level 1 Burn Center. Patient volume is approximately 2300 Trauma patients seen and 1550 admitted per year; 16 % penetrating, 84% blunt trauma. MMC is an urban teaching hospital with a fully accredited ACGME General Surgery Residency; our program is home to the only Phoenix ACGME accredited Surgical Critical Care residency. We are one of 13 hospitals nationwide accredited by the American College of Surgeons for Adult & Pediatric Trauma and Burns.
The hospital has approved plans and funding to build a new hospital. In addition DMG is a partner in the newly formed educational alliance with Creighton University; to include a Phoenix based medical school, medical student training site and a newly integrated General Surgery residency program with Dignity St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, increasing the training program to 7 categorical residents per PGY level, as well as maintaining the present affiliation with University of Arizona School of Medicine.
The successful candidate must have completed Trauma Surgery fellowship training or similar experience, be a board certified General Surgeon, and board certified in Surgical Critical Care. Previous faculty experience in an academic environment is preferred. Opportunities for being included in the General Surgery rotation are also available; robotic, advanced laparoscopic cases are performed here as well.
