CHIEF, SECTION OF SURGICAL CRITICAL CARE/SICU DIRECTOR

The Rutgers – New Jersey Medical School, Division of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care in the Department of Surgery is seeking applications for a full-time Academic Critical Care Surgeon at the Assistant/Associate Professor level to be the Director of the SICU and Chief of the Section of Surgical Critical Care with the Division.

Successful candidates must be:
• Board certified in surgery with added qualifications in surgical critical care
• >3 years’ experience at an academic institution
• Track record of scholarship, particularly in critical care
• Evidence of leadership training, ability, experience strongly desired
• Proficient in all ICU procedures, protocols and operations
• Experience with ECMO desired

The individual will be
• Chief of the Section of Surgical Critical Care within the Division. Academic rank of Assistant or Associate Professor based on CV and Rutgers guidelines
• Director of the SICU at University Hospital and be responsible for develop policies, protocols in the SICU
• Lead all critical care expansion activities within the department of surgery
• Represents Department on all critical care committees at UH
• Direct ACGME-approved fellowship in surgical critical care
• Attending responsibilities on critical care service (majority of clinical effort), trauma service and acute care surgery
• Develop a critical care research agenda
• Education for residents and fellows
• Night call 4-5 nights/month
• Report directly to the Chief of Division of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care.

Applicants must have a strong interest in clinical practice of trauma, surgical critical care and acute care surgery. In addition, applicants need to demonstrate a commitment to scientific research in either basic science, clinical trials or health services research. Successful candidates will be expected to develop their critical care research interest into internal and extramural funding applications. The New Jersey Trauma Center is the busiest Level I trauma center in New Jersey with over 3,000 trauma activations and 2,000 trauma admissions annually consisting of a mix of 75% blunt and 25% penetrating trauma. The SICU admits over 700 patients annually with a mix of trauma, liver transplant and general surgery

Candidates must also be eligible for licensure in the State of New Jersey.
