Academic Acute Care Surgeon
The University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville, Department of Surgery, Division of Acute Care Surgery, seeks an 8th full-time Acute Care Surgeon faculty position at the non-tenure accruing level of Assistant/Associate Professor. We are an academic, American College of Surgeons verified level 1 Trauma Center in Northeast Florida that provides coverage to Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. We have a freestanding general surgical residency graduating 4 chief residents per year as well as a fully accredited surgical critical care fellowship with 2 positions. The hospital has 696 beds including 28 Surgical Intensive Care Unit beds. The Trauma Program has about 4000 trauma resuscitations per year with about 2300 patients requiring admission. About 20% of these patients have an ISS> 15. The blunt/penetrating ratio is 88/12%. Major responsibilities include: providing surgical critical care for all trauma and surgical patients, evaluation and operative care for emergency general surgery patients, teaching fellows, residents and students, and research. Participation in elective general surgery coverage is possible as well.
The University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville is the largest of the three UF colleges - medicine, nursing and pharmacy - located on the approximately 110-acre UF Health Jacksonville campus. The college's 16 clinical science departments house more than 400 faculty members and 300 residents and fellows. The college offers 32 accredited graduate medical education programs. In addition to graduate medical education, clinical rotations in all the major disciplines are provided for students from the UF College of Medicine in Gainesville.
For practicing physicians, the college offers a continuing medical education program that recruits national and international speakers who are well known and respected in their fields. The campus' faculty, residents and fellows are active in clinical research. Residents and fellows regularly present their findings at locations across the country and publish their projects in well-known publications.

Must be board certified in general surgery and be board certified/ eligible in Surgical Critical Care. An interest in surgical quality is desirable but not required for this position.
