TRAUMA, CRITICAL CARE AND GENERAL SURGEON

SBH Health System, a 400 + bed Acute Care Hospital in the Bronx, NY and academic health System affiliated with the CUNY School of Medicine and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine supporting 3 FQHC primary care centers / 3 faculty practice sites and an On-campus Ambulatory Care Center. Level II Trauma Center authorized to treat the most critically ill and severely injured patients. New York State- designated Stroke Center and State designated Aids Center.

The Trauma Critical Care and General Surgeon will work closely with the Director of Surgical Trauma to meet the objectives of development and implementation of the goals for the Trauma Service, trauma center verification, and overall development of the trauma program. The surgeon will ensure that quality care and appropriate treatment are delivered to the trauma patient, initiate changes as needed to improve quality of care and assist the Director of Surgical Trauma in providing management of patients assigned to the trauma service. He/She will assist the Director of Surgical Trauma with monitoring trauma performance improvement and the patient safety process, provide trauma care and participate in the trauma surgeon call schedule. He/She will participate in the review of hospital policies for trauma care for conformity with standards set forth by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. He/She will participate in the quality assurance process through Trauma Committees and Trauma Peer Review Conference. He/She will participate in surgical critical care and surgical ICU. He/She will participate in general surgery, both acute and elective and staff clinics. He/She will participate as core faculty member in the education of the residency and fellowship programs.

The ideal candidate will possess a current New York State License, be Board Certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care, will have a Valid DEA Registration and current ATLS certification.

The ideal candidate will be a Graduate of an accredited Medical or Osteopathic School Required, a Graduate of an accredited surgical residency required and a Graduate of an accredited fellowship in surgical critical care required

The ideal candidate will also have relevant clinical experience in trauma care which is preferred.
The successful candidates will be eligible for loan forgiveness as part of National Health Service Corp Program.
