The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Department of Surgery is seeking applicants for the position of Academic Burn Surgeon based at the Timothy J. Harnar Burn Center at University Medical Center, our primary teaching hospital. The Timothy J Harnar Burn Center is the 12th busiest in the nation, with robust adult and pediatric volume and a busy inpatient and outpatient surgical practice. Overnight and weekend call coverage is covered by the in-house trauma service, freeing the burn surgeon to focus on the daily care of the burned patient. There is opportunity to blend an elective surgery or trauma/acute care surgery practice into the position, to allow the surgeon a diverse practice and maintain a broad range of surgical competencies. The long-term goal of this recruitment is for the selected candidate to become Burn Director in a few years, under the mentorship and guidance of John A. Griswold MD FACS, the current Burn Director, and Sharmila Dissanaike, MD FACS FCCM, Chair of Surgery and Burn Surgeon.

The successful candidate must be either BE/BC in General Surgery with additional fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care, Burn or Trauma, or they may be BC/BE in Plastic Surgery. The candidate should have exemplary clinical skills, a team spirit, collegiality, an interest in teaching and clinically based scholarly activity. Faculty rank will be commensurate with experience.

Surgical education is a core mission of the department, and the surgeon is expected to work closely with residents and medical students.
