Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery

The Southern Illinois University General Surgery Program is seeking a fellowship- trained Trauma/Surgical Critical Care surgeon for their Level I trauma center.

The Southern Illinois Trauma Center at Memorial Medical Center is a State-Designated Level I Trauma Center. The person recruited for this role would join four other Surgical Critical Care ABS certified providers in trauma/surgical critical care, and a trauma center staff that includes administrative, nursing, and nurse clinician support. This same physician team also serves as the foundation for a closed surgical ICU provider model at the institution, servicing a broad range of surgical critical care patients across all surgical disciplines. The trauma team is part of a nine physician general surgery program that provides general and specialized surgical services including transplantation, colorectal surgery, surgical oncology, bariatric surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and surgical endoscopy. Opportunity for an elective and acute care general surgery practice is included in the position. Teaching opportunities with surgical residents, subspecialty residents, and medical students is a daily part of our services.

The Department of Surgery at SIU SOM has an international reputation in surgical education, and General Surgery remains highly productive in the areas of educational scholarship as well as in outcomes research.
