Academic Trauma Acute Care Surgeon

The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Department of Surgery is seeking applicants for the position of Acute Care Surgeon, working within a supportive team model that allows for work-life integration and time to pursue scholarly activities. The successful candidate must be BE/BC in General Surgery, with preferred additional qualifications in trauma, burn and/or critical care. The candidate should have exemplary clinical skills, a team spirit, collegiality and an interest in teaching and/or scholarly activity. Faculty rank will be commensurate with experience.

As the only academic medical center serving a large area, Texas Tech receives the entire tertiary referral volume of trauma, burn and emergency general surgery from a large West Texas/ Eastern New Mexico region. This allows flexibility in job description, as we are committed to crafting a career that best optimizes each surgeon’s needs and skill set. Surgeons will cover emergency general surgery and trauma shifts, as well as round on the ACS floor and ICU services. Participating in our longstanding ABA-verified burn service, or developing a small-volume elective surgical practice, are additional options that can be explored.
All surgeons participating in this model will be full faculty members required to participate in activities of the department and medical school. The department is active in both basic science and clinical research, and our medical school was recently ranked #1 nationally among graduates as “The best place to learn”. Surgical education is a core mission of the department, and the acute care surgery section will include general surgery residents and medical students in addition to advanced practice providers. Mentorship of faculty to grow in their careers and fulfill their personal and academic goals is a personal commitment of the Chair (Sharmila Dissanaike MD FACS FCCM) and senior faculty have a strong track record of helping newer members seamlessly become part of the team.
