Six Practice Management Guidelines (PMGs) were published, five in the Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and one in Trauma Surgery and Acute Care Open. This represents the fourth highest number of publications in the 19-year history of EAST PMGs and is the single highest since the adoption of GRADE methodology. Vanessa Ho’s et al. PMG for “Pancreatic Injury” is in the January edition of Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery with four other PMGs accepted and planning for print in 2017. For a listing of all 66 PMGs written, please click here. The Committee has 25 PMGs in various stages of development. Six PMGs were presented at the plenary session of the 2017 EAST Annual Scientific Assembly to include: Plurad et al “Endpoints of Resuscitation”, Gelbard et al “Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infection”, Hagedorn et al “Pediatric Renal Trauma”, Pandya et al “Anticoagulation and Antiplatelet Reversal in TBI”, McDonald et al “Diaphragm Injury”, and Velopulos et al “Cervical Spine Immobilization in Penetrating Injury.” For more details regarding PMGs under development, please click here. This is a call to all Senior Members of EAST. Immediate Past President Nicole Stassen challenged us to Pay It Forward. In honor of Nicole’s visionary initiative, I will be making a list, and I want every Senior Member’s name on the list. April 28 is international “Pay It Forward Day” (PIFD). Just prior to PIFD 2017, you will receive an e-mail from Executive Director Christine Eme giving you the opportunity to easily click on a link to donate to the EAST Development Fund. “EAST is a scientific organization providing leadership and development to young surgeons active in the care of the injured patient through interdisciplinary collaboration, scholarship, and fellowship.” Contributions to the EAST Development Fund support vital EAST educational projects, scholarships, awards, research, leadership development, and much more. There are more than 600 Senior Members in EAST. Let’s Pay It Forward to our juniors — I will be looking for your name on the list. By Bryce R. H.
