EAST news | 2018 Issue 1 2 EAST Mission Statement EAST is a scientific organization providing lead- ership and development for young surgeons active in the care of the injured patient through interdisciplinary collaboration, scholarship, and fellowship. EAST Vision Statement EAST seeks to improve care of the injured by provid- ing a forum for the exchange of knowledge in the prac- tice of trauma surgery; to promote trauma prevention, research, and improved trauma systems design; to encourage investigation and teaching of the methods of preventing and treating trauma; and to stimulate future generations of sur- geons to meet the challenge. EAST is so rich in programs and opportunities that there is something for everyone. In order to make so many special programs available, EAST depends upon its Development Fund. Previously called the EAST Foundation, the Fund allows members, friends of EAST and corporations to make tax-exempt* donations that turn into life- changing opportunities for EAST members. Many of you have made donations that now total more than $1,000,000! Fund principal won’t be spent. But the annual interest on the principal is a legacy of your generosity and commitment to the future. I hope that you will consider making a commitment to the Development Fund this year so that our legacy will grow further and more future lives will be enhanced. EAST is happening…get in on it! EAST is active every day, on the website, and social media. It’s going to be another great year in EAST and the possibilities are endless with the creativity and energy of EAST’s members. I look forward to hearing from you. Andrew C. Bernard, MD, FACS EAST President Leadership. Development. Scholarship. Fellowship.
