Travis, MD for a study titled, Fractional Ablative CO2 Laser Treatment for Burn Wound-Related Hypertrophic Scar: Elucidating the Mechanistic Basis for Clinical Improvements.EAST Multicenter Trials Junior Investigator AwardThe intent of the EAST Multicenter Trials Junior Investigator Award is to assist one junior primary investigator to successfully conduct and publish a multicenter trial that seeks to answer an important and novel question in the practice of trauma, acute care surgery, or surgical critical care which will change or significantly affect the care of injured or critically ill patients.Congratulations to the 2020 recipient of this award, Stephanie Bonne, MD, FACS, for a study titled, Intermediate Health and Social Outcomes following participation in Hospital Based Violence Intervention.The EAST Oriens AwardSupported by the Polk Family Charitable Foundation, the EAST Oriens Award is a resident and fellow essay competition celebrating what inspired recipients to choose a career in trauma and acute care surgery. Each year the two award recipients present their essays during the EAST Oriens Plenary Session held during the EAST Annual Scientific Assembly.The 2020 recipients were Christina Riojas, MD (Fellow) and Mike M. Templeton, Jr. MD Injury Prevention Research ScholarshipThis scholarship is made possible through the generous donation of long-time EAST member, the late John (Jack) M. Templeton, Jr., MD, whose vision was to help support a young investigator perform an interventional trial in the field of injury prevention. Applicants are judged on the merit of their proposal and the applicants potential future contributions to the field of injury prevention. EAST was proud to present the 2020 scholarship to Brett Tracy, MD for a study titled, Shared Engagement, Recovery and Violence Elimination (SERVE): Development of a Trauma-Informed Violence Intervention Mobile App.The John M. Templeton, Jr., Military Call to Service ScholarshipFunded by the late Josephine J. Templeton, MD in honor or her late husband, John M. Templeton, Jr., MD, this annual scholarship supports 2-3 military trauma surgeons in the early stages of their career and service to attend the EAST Annual Scientific Assembly. Scholarship recipients are recognized for emulating a Call to Military Service and are expected to contribute to advancements in the treatment of the injured. In 2020 EAST recognized Daniel Wayne Bailey, MD (Army), CDR Zachary Brown, MD (Navy), and MAJ Remealle How, MD (Air Force).INVEST-C Program Early-career trauma and acute care surgeons face many barriers to the implementation and completion of research. Contributions to the Fund help to support the EAST INVEST-C Research Hackathon where five aspiring researchers collaborate with established researchers to develop trauma and acute care surgery ideas.The 2020 aspiring researchers will be announced later this year.'
