Thanks to the ongoing support of our donors, EAST was proud to present the 2022 EAST Trauma Research Scholarship to Krislynn Mueck, MD, MPH, MS for a study titled, Dronabinol on the Pain Experience (DOPE): a pragmatic, randomized clinical trial.EAST Multicenter Trials Junior Investigator AwardThe intent of the EAST Multicenter Trials Junior Investigator Award is to assist one junior primary investigator to successfully conduct and publish a multicenter trial that seeks to answer an important and novel question in the practice of trauma, acute care surgery, or surgical critical care which will change or significantly affect the care of injured or critically ill patients.Congratulations to the 2023 recipient of this award, Laura F. Goodman, MD, MPH, FAAP, for a study titled,A Retrospective Comparison of the Effectiveness of Percutaneous Pigtail Catheters Versus Traditional Chest Tubes for Hemothorax in Pediatric Trauma.The EAST Oriens Award Supported by the Polk Family Charitable Foundation, the EAST Oriens Award is a resident and fellow essay competition celebrating what inspired recipients to choose a career in trauma and acute care surgery. Each year the two award recipients present their essays during the EAST Oriens Plenary Session held during the EAST Annual Scientific Assembly. The 2023 recipients were Julia R. Templeton, Jr., MD, whose vision was to help support a young investigator perform an interventional trial in the field of injury prevention. Applicants are judged on the merit of their proposal and the applicants potential future contributions to the field of injury prevention.EAST was proud to present the 2023 scholarship to Leah C. Tatebe, MD, FACS for a study titled, The Language of Violence: Do Words Matter More Than We Think?'
