EAST Vision Statement EAST seeks to improve care of the injured by provid- ing a forum for the exchange of knowledge in the prac- tice of trauma surgery; to promote trauma prevention, research, and improved trauma systems design; to encourage investigation and teaching of the methods of preventing and treating trauma; and to stimulate future generations of sur- geons to meet the challenge. more eligible CME. The EAST Foundation was transitioned into an EAST Development Section under the leadership of Dr. Robert Bar- raco, allowing for decreased overhead and increased ability to fund EAST scholarships. The EAST Military Section under the leadership of Drs. Daniel Bonville and Daniel Grabo has continued to increase our resources for our military members including Military-specific Career- casts. The EAST Guidelines Section under the leadership of Dr. Bryce Robinson has seen the most EAST GRADE-based PMGs published in a single year as well as establishing a collaboration with the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma Performance Improvement Program. Under the leadership of Dr. Britt Christmas, our collaboration with the Society of Trauma Nurses has resulted in a joint STN-EAST Advance Practice Provider three-part workshop series, the first of which will be held during our Annual Scientific Assembly in January. To paraphrase John F. Kennedy, EAST as an organization stands today on the edge of a new frontier — a frontier of unknown oppor- tunities and perils — a frontier of unfulfilled hopes and threats. It is my fervent hope that EAST continues to be the go-to organization for young trauma/acute care surgeons for education, research and professional development, that the annual assembly continues to be the meeting that you want to attend because of its content and atmo- sphere and that EAST continues to inspire trainees to not just follow in our footsteps but to continue to take our field to new and better places. I know that our organization is in great hands next year with President-Elect Dr. Bruce Crookes. In closing, it has been such an honor to serve as your President this past year. Words cannot express how special this organization truly is. In a short time we will meet again in Hollywood, Florida for our 30th Annual Assembly. I challenge each and every EAST member between now and then, to continue to “Pay it Forward” to our organization, our specialty, our families, our patients, our partners, ourselves and our communities. Eleanor Roosevelt said “It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness.” May we all continue to be the ones who are lighting candles in our communities. Nicole A.
